Wilderness Activities

Do it in the Wilderness

Backpacking Cherry Creek

There is a scene in Life of Brian where Brian is trying to convince a growing crowd of his followers that they are all unique individuals

  • Brian: “You are all different.”
  • Crowd: “Yes, we are all different!”
  • Lone Individual: “I’m not.”

Activities in the wilderness are as varied and unique as the people participating in them. Or not.

Hiking Dardanelles

There are certainly a wide variety of choices to make, but for us they currently fall into these major categories:

  • backpacking
  • hiking
  • fishing
  • mountain biking
  • kayaking

Overtime this list may expand or it may contract.

Trout Underwater

For now, these are the areas we are most passionate about, and the ones that will be our focus.

Mountain Biking
Mountain Biking

Fishing will be cover various way to catch, clean, and cook fish in the wilderness. In most cases, we will be covering trout fishing, which is probably the most popular, and certainly our favorite.

Mountain biking, although not allowed in all wilderness areas, is growing in popularity. We will focus on the basic skills required, including maintenance.

Kayaking Cache Creek

Kayaking and rafting is also a passion. Darn it, we just seem to love everything outdoors. We will focus on basic skills, technique, and water safety.

Welcome to How To Wilderness

How-To: a practical method or instruction –

Wilderness:  a tract or region uncultivated and uninhabited by human beings   –

Belief:  We believe that uncultivated and uninhabited does not mean inaccessible or unvisited.   The wilderness is something that can and should be embraced and enjoyed.

The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness. – John Muir

Goal: Our goal is to be your “goto” learning resource for outdoor activities.  We want to provide you with the skills, resources, and motivation to spend more time in the wilderness.
